Turn a confusing form into a usable flow

Experience the bridge between observing a problem, testing an idea and implementing an accessible interaction.

Start the experiment

01 · Setup

What you need

  • Basic HTML/CSS and a little JavaScript. Paper and a browser are enough; no paid design tool. If no participant is available, label your self-review honestly.

You may stop when the timebox ends. An incomplete result is still useful evidence.

02 · Task

The work sequence

  1. 01

Choose a three-field event-registration form. Write the user task, a confusing moment and a sketch of a simpler flow.

  2. 02

Ask a consenting peer to try the sketch with fictional data; do not coach. Note observed behavior separately from your interpretation.

  3. 03

Implement labels, instructions, validation errors and a success state. Preserve entered data after an error.

  4. 04

Use only the keyboard, zoom the page and check a narrow screen. Revise one issue and write a before/after decision note without claiming statistical proof.

03 · Pay attention

Watch your reaction, not only the output

  • Did feedback change your design, or did you defend the first sketch?
  • Did you enjoy both understanding the task and implementing the details?

Plot twist

Difficulty does not mean the career is a bad fit. The useful question is whether curiosity returned after the difficulty.

04 · Reflect

Three honest questions

01

Would you voluntarily spend another five hours on this kind of problem? Why?

02

Which part gave you energy, and which part drained it?

03

What evidence—not a salary video—would you gather before choosing this path?

This site does not save your answers. Put them in your own notebook if useful.

05 · Where to go next

Enjoyed it or disliked it—both results are useful.
