Train a tiny classifier—and challenge it

Experience baselines, evaluation and error analysis instead of model theatre.

Start the experiment

01 · Setup

What you need

  • Basic Python; no advanced math required.

You may stop when the timebox ends. An incomplete result is still useful evidence.

02 · Task

The work sequence

  1. 01

Choose a small labelled dataset and split train/test before exploring outcomes.

  2. 02

    Train a simple baseline classifier.

  3. 03

Inspect a confusion matrix and five wrong predictions.

  4. 04

Change one feature or threshold; explain who benefits and who is harmed.

03 · Pay attention

Watch your reaction, not only the output

  • Were you more curious about the model or the mistakes?
  • Did uncertainty feel exciting or frustrating?

Plot twist

Difficulty does not mean the career is a bad fit. The useful question is whether curiosity returned after the difficulty.

04 · Reflect

Three honest questions

01

Would you voluntarily spend another five hours on this kind of problem? Why?

02

Which part gave you energy, and which part drained it?

03

What evidence—not a salary video—would you gather before choosing this path?

This site does not save your answers. Put them in your own notebook if useful.

05 · Where to go next

Enjoyed it or disliked it—both results are useful.
